Scott Ackerman graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Kinesiology/Exercise and Sport Science. He worked with the Penn State Nittany Lion Football team as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach under coach Joe Paterno and John Thomas from 1992-1994. In 1994 he became part of the Washington Redskins Strength and Conditioning Staff under Dan Riley and worked with the Redskins from 1994 to 2000 in the weight room.
In 1998, Scott co-founded Elite Fitness Concepts in Great Falls, Virginia. From humble beginnings, he has helped see it grow to over 36 employees. Although much of his past experience is working with elite athletes, he works with clients of all ages, abilities, and disabilities. With graduate courses in Medical Exercise and Post Rehab, he has a specific interest in helping clients return to normal activities following surgery or other medical intervention. As a Medical Exercise Specialist, he works with many of the area’s top doctors and therapists in bridging the gap that exists between the medical community and your fitness center. Scott and his Athletic Training staff are qualified to treat and develop post rehab protocols for many of the common musculoskeletal conditions on an individualized basis. Sports, health, and fitness have always been a part of Scott’s life. Beginning at age 5, wrestling has been his primary sport. He became a District and Region Champ in High School and won the Region 8 MVP award. He was awarded the New Jersey Scholar-Athlete award in 1988. Also in 1988, Scott was part of the US Junior Olympic National Wrestling Team for Greco-Roman and Freestyle and competed in Cedar Falls, Iowa. As a freshman, he went on as a walk-on for the Penn State Nittany Lion Wrestling Team.
Today, Scott enjoys competing in the sport of Triathlon, as this three-sport event helps keep balance in his overall fitness regimen. To date, he tries to average four triathlons per year. In 2007, Scott completed his first Half-Ironman distance triathlon in a time of 5hr 38min.

Early morning first tracks atop the morning dew on the tees, fairways, and greens. Birds chirping at the morning’s first light. Ahhh, to many of us, this is music to our ears. With the arrival of Spring weather, many of us are unveiling our golf clubs from the confines of our basements and garages. Others find themselves tightening the strings on their tennis racket as the thought of Spring tournament play draws near.
